Board Goals

2009-2010

Goal 1: Expect all students meet or exceed State or Federal standards in reading and mathematics:

Activities:

1. Improve student performance in mathematics.

2. Ensure that all schools, notably Cony, make Adequate Yearly Progress.

3. Effectively use data to inform instruction.

4. Increase the percentage of students taking the SAT.

5. Reduce the number of students leaving Cony.

6. Increase alternative programming options for students.

Goal 2: Monitor transitions at the middle and upper grades:

Activities:

1. Review monthly the implementation of the 4X4 Schedule at Cony.

2. Assess the transition of the 7^th and 8^th grade to Cony.

Goal 3:  Evaluate each of the School Department facilities

Activities:

1. Submit applications to the Maine Department of Education Capital Construction Process for review and consideration.

2. Begin construction process for an addition to Cony.

3. Act on energy audit recommendations and include when possible in budget development for school year 2010-2011.

Goal 4: Promote the Augusta School Department and maintain positive public relations

Activities:

1. Improve use of CTV 7 programming.

2. Showcase individual schools on a monthly basis.

3. Redesign the School Department’s web site and individual school pages to create greater public participation and awareness of school happenings and needs.

4. Positively and successfully negotiate successor collective bargaining agreements.

5. Develop a budget for school year 2010-2011 with public participation and support.

6. Revise the Augusta School Department policy manual.
