Welcome to Augusta Adult and Community Education and the Kennebec Learning Center
Augusta Adult and Community Education (a division of the Augusta School Department) provides life-long learning opportunities for the community. We offer High School Diploma, GED, and college-prep classes; office and employment skills and vocational training; life improvement and enrichment courses; literacy and ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages), American Sign Language I/II/III; and general interest classes. Try some of our new classes that are being offered this Fall. Are you looking for a new profession? Then we offer the Certified Nursing Assistant 200 hour course, which prepares one for the health care profession in a rehab facility, hospital, or an in-home health care position. And speaking of health care, we offer a course in Living Well, a chronic disease prevention and self-management program for healthy living. We also offer an unusual opportunity to take Tuition Free, College Credit Courses such as College Composition (ENG 101), Elements of Math (MAT 113), and Medical Terminology (MAT 121) offered to Adult Education students in collaboration with Kennebec Valley Community College and the Capital Area Adult Ed Consortium. Please call our counselor and inquire. First come, first served. How about a fun class? Don’t Worry – Bead Happy, a class that teaches you how to make gifts using beads. In this three week course students will make book thongs, earrings, and bracelets. Or, for the “chocolaholics” we offer Chocolate Appreciation class, where students will learn about types of chocolate, the handling of and cooking with chocolate, and prepare recipes with chocolate. Then too, if you are a crafty person, maybe you would like to learn to make Baskets such as wine baskets or mitten baskets. As B.B. King says, “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” So take a leap this Fall and join us for an evening of fun!
