The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course is a 200 hour course consisting of classroom, lab, and clinical instruction in an area health care facility. This course meets the Maine State Board of Nursing requirements. Successful completion of this course and passing the State of Maine CNA competency exam will qualify an assistant to work in a hospital, rehabilitation facility, clinic, or home health care. Upon course completion, we will administer the state CNA exam.

Topics covered in the course include:

• Age-specific care

• Safe patient care delivery

• Infection control principles and practices

• Body mechanics and mobility skills

• Communication skills

• Assisting with daily living activities

• Nutrition and assisting patients with meeting these needs

• Common health problems

A reading assessment is required to show English reading proficiency. We will administer the assessment at the time of the admission interview.  An applicant should bring an application, resume, and two references to the interview. Upon acceptance to the CNA program, an applicant must have a background check. Classes will be held Thursdays and Fridays during the day. Call 626-2470 for more information.

Interviews/Assessments: January 6, 8, 13, and 15, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and January 20 and 22, 2009 from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. by appointment only at the Kennebec Learning Center.

Applicants will be sent an informational packet when they call to set up their appointment.

    Please bring the following documents with you to your interview:

• Completed application form (included in the packet)

• Resume

• Two letters of reference

• Proof of high school completion (diploma or GED)

• Picture I.D. with signature (driver’s license, state I.D., military I.D.)

• Social Security card

• Signed SBI form (included in the packet)

• Proof of the following immunizations: MMR, Tetanus, Hepatitis B and evidence of a negative T.B. test
