ACCOUNTING I - PART I

This is beginning instruction for accounting. The course covers sole proprietorships and partnerships in a 5 journal, 3 ledger accounting system. All accounting principles (including journalizing in the 5 journals; posting to the general and subsidiary ledgers; adjusting and closing entries at the end of a fiscal period; financial statement preparation of balance sheets, owners' equity statements, and income statements; cash control systems; and payroll accounting are presented. The course covers the first 17 chapters of the Accounting I text. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students must attend both evenings to receive credit. This course may be used toward the Office Skills Certificate Program.

BUSINESS ENGLISH

FOSTER, JANICE

If you want to improve your English skills for use in an office setting, this course is for you. Areas of instruction focus on punctuation, vocabulary, grammar, capitalization, spelling, letter formatting, writing and setup. Hands on reinforcement exercises in the computer lab help students apply business concepts they have learned in the classroom. This course may be used toward the Office Skills Certificate Program.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS

You will be introduced to the basic computer terminology, a computer operating system, and application software. This course will enable you to work independently on a personal computer with beginning skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Typing skill is an advantage but not a requirement for this course. Students need to bring a blank disk. This course may be used toward the Office Skills Certificate Program.

KEYBOARDING I & II

WRIGHT, SHARON

Learn how to type using Windows XP and Microsoft Word for Windows software. The first half of the semester will focus on learning the keyboard and basic computer functions; while the second half will focus on typing tests and building speed and accuracy. Students may develop a resume' as part of the class. Work at your own pace and get the skills needed in today's computer age. This course may be used toward the Office Skills Certificate Program.

MEDICAL OFFICE FORMS & PRACTICE

LANGUET, KATHLEEN

This course is designed to train students to work confidently in a medical office environment. Medical office procedures including scheduling, billing and record maintenance will be covered. Students will develop skills to help them successfully process a variety of insurance claims. The course will cover material such as ICD 9 and CPT coding, modifiers, and utilizing insurance companies. This course meets the requirements of the Medical Secretary Certificate.

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

The student will develop a basic understanding of the medical language employed in the health care professions utilizing word analysis and application of medical terms to anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the human body. MICROSOFT EXCEL - INTRO

Introduction to Excel 2003 provides students with the fundamental skills that are necessary to use Excel 2003 on a daily basis in their workplace or at home. The course includes an introduction to electronic spreadsheets and how they are used, the difference between text, numbers, and calculations in Excel, creating and using formulas, right and wrong ways to enter a formula (and why), copying and pasting, drag-and-drop editing, formatting, printing, working with columns and rows, absolute references, and an introduction to charts. This course will teach you how Excel thinks and enable you to understand the framework of the program enough to be able to use it and solve problems independently. Basic knowledge of computers and keyboarding required. This course may be used toward the Office Skills Certificate Program.

MICROSOFT EXCEL - INT/ADV

Intermediate/Advanced Excel 2003 provides students with more advanced spreadsheet skills. This 7-week course includes advanced formulas and functions, charting, using databases, working with multiple worksheets and workbooks, using HTML files, range names, labels in formulas, drawing objects and auto shapes, PivotTables, using forms, importing data, and creating macros. This course will give students the tools to perform a broad range of tasks and be able to discover solutions to problems independently. This course builds on the skills learned in the Microsoft Excel - Intro course. Basic knowledge of computers and keyboarding required. This course may be used toward the Office Skills Certificate Program.

MICROSOFT WORD 2003 - BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE

WESTON, LINDA

Whether for business or home use, learn how to use the software features to their full potential and improve your productivity. In this 18-hour hands-on class, some topics for this course include, but are not limited to: create, format, view, print, save, copy/move and switch between multiple documents, learn page setups – margins, tabs, indenting, justification, how to insert page breaks, page numbering, insert a document into your current document, use automatic numbering and bullets, line spacing, working with headers/footers, section breaks, basic tables, columns and graphics. No prior computer experience is required, but a base speed of 20 words per minute is beneficial. This course may be used toward the Secretarial Certificate Program.

In this 18-hour hands-on Intermediate/Advance class, topics for this course include, auto format features, find and replace text and formats, footnotes and endnotes, templates, customizing toolbars, tables using formulas and sort and query features, desktop publishing, mail merge, inserting hyperlinks in a document, macros, creating automated forms, customizing features, and integrating with other Office Applications. Learn how to work, create and assign Styles, the real secret to using Word. Create a basic Web Page. Learn how to e-mail a Word document and more. No prior computer experience is required, but a base speed of 20 words per minute is beneficial. This course may be used toward the Secretarial Certificate Program.
