Offered by the United States Power Squadrons, this 8-week course covers boat handling, trailering, Federal and state regulations, navigation rules, safety equipment, adverse conditions and emergencies, basic navigation, chart reading and plotting, and sailing fundamentals. There is a $55.00 cost for the textbook, nautical chart and plotting instruments, payable to the instructor on the first night of class.

Chess goes back 1,400 years and is the greatest of all board games. If you don't know the rules or are intermediate, you'll enjoy this class and discover another way of passing the time during the long Maine winter. I'll discuss the rules and then we'll look at some opening systems and how to read and write two commonly used notations using a wall demo-board. I'll coach or play, depending on the size of the class. Come play the favorite game of Abraham Lincoln, Thomas
Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. I have tournament-sized set for use in the classroom.

I have been selling on eBay since 1999 and have been certified as an education specialist trained by eBay through eBay University. This will be a hands-on learning experience.

CHILDCARE OPTIONS
This 6 hour training introduces the aspects of opening a family child care business in the home. It covers state certification procedures, health and safety practices, working with families, child development, community and professional resources, business and professional development. The training will fulfill the 6 hours of orientation training required by the Department of Health and Human Services for certification. This two night training will be held at Cony High School on February 5th and at Child Care Options on February 7th. Sharon Abair will be the trainer. PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

GREEK AND ROMAN HISTORY

This class is for those interested in learning some roots of Western Civilization. We’ll cover a broad spectrum beginning with the founding of Carthage in 814 BC; Rome's founding; the beginning of Greek democracy; and the Anglo Saxon invasion of "AngleLand" in 441 AD.
Why does the "Cynic" bark like a dog? Who invented the alphabet? Many common phrases, modern borders, and the beginning of science all started here, 5 centuries BC. We will view films as well, on topics such as: Boudicca's Revolt, Hannibal, Caesar, Greek science in COSMOS, etc. My own chronology will be used as our syllabus. Please bring a notebook.

octave, then the 16 chords you'll need. We'll explore some Hank Williams, Woody

Some Rory Block videos and old time guitar will be views for fun. Some practice

MAINE DRIVING DYNAMICS

Maine's "Driving Dynamics Course" offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. This five-hour course will include discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. A certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor teaches the course. The course format engages active participation of students. Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. When registering, please include your date of birth and drivers license number. If you had any skills in a past life that you would like to bring forward into this lifetime it is possible. The class is fun and interesting for participants and on lookers. The only requirements are an open mind and the willingness and ability to be hypnotized. Those who can visualize will have a more moving experience. All regressions will be discussed by the class. Tape recorders and video cameras are welcome with the agreement of those involved with the regression.
