Mission Statement:
Capital Area Technical Center is committed to developing technical and academic skills and to promoting the student attitudes and achievements that will prepare students for further education and careers in the 21st century.
Capital Area Technical Center encourages partnerships with business and industry to enhance the education and training opportunities for students.
Cooperative Education Mission Statement:
Cooperative education is a program which combines academic study with paid, monitored and credit-bearing work.
Cooperative education does not imply that a student has chosen to limit career opportunity by focusing on the job. It is intended to ensure that the student will master the tools he/she will need to enter employment and or succeed in a program of higher education.
To be eligible for coop the following must be considered:
Students must be employed in either their program of studies or at a job that is at least 20 hours a week.
The student would take a pre-test to measure their understanding of: employment skills, employment laws; personal finances; taxes; and other employment/personal information as covered in the coop curriculum.
The student will agree to meet monthly with the program coordinator to review job evaluations, work packets and other information necessary to assist the student with success in the work place.
In addition the following will take place during the course of the school year:
Two yearly evaluations by the employer
One job site visit by the coordinator
Cooperative Education Curriculum
Competition of employment paperwork: State of Maine Student Work Agreement; Form I-9; Employer work agreement
Resumes, Reference letters and letters of introduction
Employment: applying for the job; the interview; laws of employment; payroll; employer expectations
Personal Finances: financial institutions; services of financial institutions; budgets/retirement planning; money management skills; credit
