Students,

Welcome back to the 2007-2008 school year.

We are looking forward to meeting all of you and to   helping you meet your academic goals.  We will begin scheduling courses in the Learning Center soon after your arrival to the Center.  In the meantime, please feel free to stop by and introduce yourselves.  We're excited to get started.

    Mrs. Pelletier and Mrs. Sylvester

The Learning Center is the academic hub of CATC.  A variety of academic courses is offered to attending CATC students.  Students need to successfully complete course requirements in order to receive credit from their sending school.   The courses are individualized and self-paced, so any subject can be taken at any class time as long as enough computers and seats are available.  Classes are offered on an alternating block schedule for 50 minutes.  Full day students can take up to two Learning Center courses; half day students can take courses in the opposite half day from their technical program.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

 1. Be in class on time and every time!  When you first come in, get your folder from the box and begin work.  If you have a question or get stuck in your work, ask the teacher for help.

2. Be prepared for class:  You WILL need a pencil/pen daily.  If you need a pen or pencil, we need collateral!

 3. Sign out to leave class:  If you need to leave class for any reason, check with the teacher first.  Write your name and the time you’re leaving on the sign out sheet.   Write return time when you get back to class. Avoid homework and hassles by staying in class for the entire time when at all possible.  This is your time to work; use it well!

 4. Follow this procedure at the end of class:  Leave work to be checked or corrected in the designated place on the teacher’s desk OR return unfinished work to your folder and return folder to crate.

 5. Take responsibility for your own learning.  Learning Center courses are individualized, so others in the class may not be working on the same subject or the same assignment.  It will be up to you to manage the pace and progress of your work.  Seek help when necessary.   An assigned amount of work at a passing level will be required in order to earn credit.

 6.  Remember:  Respectful Environment!  Respect others in the class by remaining quiet, so that they can work without distraction.  Use common sense regarding your personal behavior in the classroom.  We DO NOT tolerate swearing, roughhousing, sleeping, or any other inappropriate behavior.

 7. Use common sense regarding upkeep of the classroom.  If you use something, put it back where you found it; if you have trash, put it in the trash can, not in or on the desks; do not write on desks or computer stations. Treat the computers, TV/VCRs, and CD players carefully.  They get a lot of use!

 8. No food or drink except water in the Learning Center.
