We are very fortunate to
have the MLTI and enough Apple iBooks for every HMS student.
Care of Your MLTI iBook General Handling and Care for Parents and Students to know: 1. Mishandling of your iBook could result in the loss of your iBook! 2. The iBook is fun to use, but it is not a toy! Remember that it is a computer and must be handled with care. 3. The iBooks belongs to the Maine Department of Education. They are on loan for students to use as a tool for learning. 4. Protect it from heat or cold and weather. 5. Do not put your iBook in your locker. Know where your computer is at all times. If you must leave your computer, let your teacher know where it is and make sure that it is in a safe place. 6. Do not drink or eat when you are using or near your computer. 7. Close the computer carefully - from the center of the screen - do not slam it shut. Make sure that there are no pencils or pens on the keyboard. 8. When you need to bring your computer to the teacher's desk for help, make sure that your close the computer and carry it with both hands. DO NOT CARRY THE COMPUTER BY THE SCREEN. 9. Use the iBook on a flat stable surface. Although it is called a laptop, it is not to be used while resting on your lap. The laptop should be on a flat smooth surface in order to maintain air flow around the bottom case. Placing the laptop on a pillow or on your bed will cause the iBook to overheat. 10. Do not insert things into the openings (ports) of the iBook. 11. Be patient. Sometimes computers require time to do their job. 12. When you are done using your computer for the day, shut it down completely. When you close the lid, make sure that the screen goes completely black. Failing to do this will cause your computer to over heat and may damage your computer permanently. 13. You will be assigned a slot in your homeroom cabinet for storage and charging of your iBook. Make sure that you use your slot only and plug the power cable into the power port. 14. If/when you take the iBook home for assignments, be sure it is recharged for the next school day. Never charge the iBook while it is in the case. The iBook should be in a ventilated space while charging. 15. For your own health, when using the computer, it should be kept at least 18 inches from your eyes and the screen should be at a lower level than your eyes. 16. Only use standard size CDs and/or DVD discs with the optical drive. Never insert non- standard sized optical media into the drive because the media will get stuck inside the drive. 17. DO NOT mark up the iBook in any way with markers, stickers, etc. Same goes for the case. Do not write on it! 18. You are encouraged to attach a key chain, or some other small item to the computer case to help you identify your computer quickly. The computer case is for your computer only. Don't stuff papers or other items in the case. 19. To keep your computer screen clean, do not touch it with your fingers. If you need to clean the screen, see Mrs. Croc here in the Annex for the proper cleaning solution and a soft cloth. Wipe the surfaces lightly with a clean soft cloth. DO NOT use water or other cleaning solutions on the iBook. 20. Make sure that you treat the power cable with care. It should be placed out of the way when your computer is not in the cabinet to prevent the plug from being crushed by the cabinet doors. Cables When charging cable needs to be connected, be sure to line it up correctly when inserting and removing. If the battery is not charging, do not wiggle the power cord. Try removing it and fully reinserting it. Be careful not to jerk the iBook around when cables are attached.
