Technology Curriculum
Grades 9 - 12

Through various courses, students in Grades 9 – 12 may have opportunities 
to demonstrate the following performances:

A. BASIC OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS

Students have opportunities to demonstrate an understanding of the use and potential of technology.
Students have opportunities to be proficient in the use of technology.

Students have opportunities to demonstrate the following performances:

1.  Make informed choices among technology systems, resources, and services.

 

B.  SOCIAL & ETHICAL ISSUES

Students will understand the ethical and societal issues related to technology.
Students will practice responsible use of technology.
Students will develop an appreciation for technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
Students have opportunities to employ technology in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world.

Students have opportunities to demonstrate the following performances:  

1.  Identify capabilities and limitations of contemporary and emerging technology resources and assess the potential of these systems and services to address personal, lifelong learning, and workplace needs.

2.  Analyze advantages and disadvantages of widespread use and reliance on technology in the workplace and in society as a whole.

3.  Exhibit legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology, and discuss consequences of misuse.
            a.  Students will read, sign acknowledgement, and follow the Augusta School Department’s Acceptable Use Policy.

C. TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS

Students have opportunities to use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.

Students have opportunities to demonstrate the following performances.

1.  Use technology tools and resources for managing and communicating personal/professional information.
            a.   Ex. finances, schedules, addresses, purchases, correspondence

2.  Investigate and apply simulations in real-world situations.

3.  Collaborate with peers, experts, and others to contribute to a content-related knowledge base by using technology to compile, synthesize, produce, and disseminate information, models, and other creative works.

D.  TECHNOLOGY COMMUNICATIONS TOOLS

Students understand the basic skills necessary to use telecommunication tools.
Students have an understanding of a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively.

Students have opportunities to demonstrate the following performances:

1.  Use online information resources to meet needs for collaboration, research, publications, communications, and productivity.

E.  TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH TOOLS

Students have opportunities to use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.
Students have opportunities to use technology tools to process data and report results.
Students will evaluate and select information resources based on the appropriateness for specific tasks.

Students have opportunities to demonstrate the following performances:

1.   Evaluate technology-based options, including distance education, for lifelong learning.

2.  Select and apply technology tools for research, information analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making in content learning.

3.  Use the school library catalog.
