Technology curriculum

K-8

B.  SOCIAL & ETHICAL ISSUES

Students will understand the ethical and societal issues related to technology.
Students will practice responsible use of technology.
Students will develop an appreciation for technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
Students will employ technology in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world.

Students will have opportunities to demonstrate the following performances.

Prior to completion of Grade 2, students will:

1.  Work cooperatively and collaboratively when using technology.

2.  Demonstrate responsible social and ethical behaviors when using technology.

3.  Discuss basic issues related to responsible use of technology and understand the personal consequences of inappropriate use.
  
         a.  Sign acknowledgement and follow the Augusta School 
                 Department’s Acceptable Use Policy.
  
         b.  Understand the importance of cleanliness around the 
                 computer.
  
         c.  Use technology responsibly.

Prior to completion of Grade 5, students will:

1.  Review and expand upon K - 2 skills.  

2.  Discuss common uses of technology in daily life and the advantages and disadvantages those uses provide.
  
         a.  Accuracy and relevance .

Prior to completion of Grade 8, students will:

1.  Review and expand upon Gr. 3 – 5 skills.

2.  Demonstrate knowledge of current changes in technology and the effect those changes have on the workplace and society.
  
         a.  Current events, technology developments.

3.  Exhibit legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology, and discuss consequences of misuse.
