Kim Silsby, Cony High School principal introduced Jennifer Trip, John Millett and Ann Buxton, Social Studies Teachers.  Financial Literacy has been talked about at the legislative level and also in the media primarily regarding student debt.  The group talked about how and what they teach regarding financial literacy at the secondary level which is taken directly from Maine’s Learning Results and required by law.  Ms. Silsby said they received, from one of our city counselors, some information from an organization called Everti.  The program has modules based on financial literacy.  It was purchased for the State of Maine and free for all school districts.  Mr. Millett and Ms. Buxton are looking at the program to see what pieces of that module they may be able to use.

Donna Madore ,  Assistant Superintendent, said we continue to work on components to the Comprehensive Education Plan of which Students at Risk is one of those components.  It was sent to all building administrators for review and received feedback from all of them.  Teachers use the ABC’s Rubric as a screener twice a year at the end of October and at the end of April to help identify students at risk.  It looks at attendance, behavior, connections with school community and skills.  Ms. Madore also discussed all the programs the schools offer to help identified students.  For example –referrals to RTI teams, Title I, Project Pride, school counselor, social worker, Alternative to suspension, Job’s for Maine graduates, 504 Team, Special Education, RAM Time, afterschool help, etc.

Motion by Jennifer Neumeyer to move the Students at Risk Plan to the board for approval.  Second by April Cusick, so moved 3-0.
