_____________ Second ____________
Motion Passed/Failed: _____ to ______ |
ARTICLE 12: Shall the City raise $29,640,019 and appropriate $12,675,479 for the total cost of funding public education from Pre-kindergarten to grade 12 as described in the Essential Programs and Services Funding Act and to see what sum the municipality will raise as the municipality’s contribution to the total cost of funding public education from Per-kindergarten to grade 12 as described in the Essential Programs and Services Funding Act in accordance with the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 15688.
School Board Recommends: $29,640,019 and $12,675,479
Explanation: The City’s contribution to the total cost of funding public education from Pre-kindergarten to grade 12 as described in the Essential Programs and Services Funding Act is the amount of money determined by state law to be the minimum amount that a municipality must raise in order to receive the full amount of state dollars. At this date, the amount raised is less than the state required minimum; however, there is pending legislation to waive this requirement as the State is not meeting its funding obligation.
