      17.  Assistant Superintendent’s Report:

Ms. Madore said it has been a very busy summer.  Today was the last Administrators’ professional development session, which were held every Wednesday through the summer.  She said she is preparing for new staff orientation scheduled for September 20 from 8 a.m. to noon.  On September 21, there will be training for new teachers grades K-6 on the CCC literacy program.

      18.  Superintendent’s Report:

Mr. Anastasio explained that during the summer school offices are not staffed.  All inquiries were directed to the Superintendent’s office at the same time we experimented with a different level of staff because of some changes made.  He said there is a receptionist during the school year but not during the summer and thought we could cover that with existing staff.  With the combination of all of those things, it took people away from things they normally do.  We will look at it next summer.  Often there were questions they did not know anything about because they do not work in an elementary or high school.  He thanked those people for attempting to meet the needs of all the parents who contacted the superintendent’s office.  Mr. Anastasio complimented Jon Stonier’s staff for the work they have done this summer.  He also thanked administrators who have been in and out all summer preparing for the fall not only in terms of the professional development that was held but also in terms of getting their school ready and planning for the future.  He said the elementary principals are getting ready to send information home.  The first day for staff is August 27.  There will be a continental breakfast at 7:30 followed by a welcome back opening remarks and introductions in the auditorium.  Board members are invited to attend.  The 28th is the first day of school for some students.  There are still a few positions available in the district: 2 ed. tech. II; 1 ed. tech for literacy at Lincoln; district interpreter; 3 ed. tech III; ed. tech at CATC; 1 part-time ed. tech. for Tile I at Cony High School; special education sign language interpreter; art teacher for Farrington and Hussey; science teacher at Cony Middle School; dean of students at Farrington; 3 lunchroom monitors; JV soccer coach.

      19.  Reports from Other School Officials:

Kim Silsby said 7th, 8th and 9th graders will start school August 28. Students in grades 10 thru 12 will begin August 29.  She said the schedules are going out this weekend.  They are doing an informational night for 7th graders and parents August 27 at 6 p.m..  The pre-season athletic meeting with high school athletes and parents is August 18 at 6 p.m. The pre-season starts Monday, August 19.  Ms. Silsby thanked the many people involved in getting the athletic field ready; the custodial staff for doing an incredible job in the building; and the many staff members who have come in to do interviews, work on committees, etc.  She reported 7th graders will attend  the Y Camp Sept. 4.  Cony will be resurrecting the old tradition of a home rally in Mill Park that is scheduled for Sept. 25.  Ms. Rollins said August 27 is orientation for incoming grade 7 students and parents.  She encourages parents to attend if they did not attend the June session because they will discuss the use of laptops and it is important that parents are trained on how their student is expected to use the laptop
