Ms. Madore reported that so far this year 7 truancy letters were sent to parents.  The DOE said the eMPpowerME state assessment results for grades 4-8 will be released to the schools by late September.  She said preparations for the first early release professional development on September 16 are underway. Some work will be done around instructional practices and behavioral management.

      18.  Superintendent’s Report:

Mr. Anastasio thanked everyone involved in the opening of school.  He said there was a fire alarm at Cony today.  It was not a test. Everybody responded appropriately.  A sprinkler was tripped in the plumbing and heating program.  There was no damage to the building or equipment.  There was never any danger to students or staff.

      19.  Reports from Other School Officials:

Theresa Beaudoin, principal at Farrington reported that there are many new faces at Farrington this year due to a lot of retirements and some people moving on.  One of the things trying to work on this year is doing restorative circles, which is part of the restorative practice program.  The 11 week DARE program will begin September 13.  The first PTC meeting will be next week.  She said they have a K Club that is a community service organization for grades 5 and 6.

Jan Rollins said SRO officers were concerned that the number of students vaping, cyber bullying and inappropriately using social media has increased.  SROs will attend the first middle school parent meeting Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. and will be addressing those three topics along with ways for parents to be involved.  They will be visiting every middle school homeroom during a Tuesday advisor/advisee time to follow up with students around these topics.  On parent conference night Oct. 3, nurse Massey, along with the SROs, will hand out information and give a formal presentation in the auditorium at 6 p.m..  On September 3, seventh grade students and teachers attended the YMCA camp in Winthrop for relationship building.
