Coronavirus Relief Funds 1 and 2

Mr. Anastasio gave an update on Coronavirus Relief Funds #1 and #2 which total $4.5 million.  CRF #2 funds were released two weeks ago.  The funds are to be used for expenses related to the pandemic.  $650,000 of CRF #2 funds will be used to improve ventilation in all the buildings.  Everything has to be bought and the money used by December 30.

Coronavirus Cases

Sixty schools in Maine have had active cases in their buildings.  Augusta schools have not had any active cases.

Technology

Every student, teacher and education technician now has a device.  He said they are trying to find more devices to use as spares.

Future ASD budgets

The pandemic has caused revenue shortages across the country.  The Governor has asked departments to reduce their budgets by 10.4%.  Superintendents have been told to start thinking about their 2022 and 2023 budgets because it’s likely the general purpose aid will be down as well as City revenues.

Mr. Anastasio thanked the board for supporting his recommendation to provide more staff development time for teachers.

Assistant Superintendent Report

Level meetings have been taking place one a month.  A lot of work is being done on report cards.  Report cards at the elementary level will come out in December.  The book Distance Learning Playbook was ordered as a resource for every teacher in the district.  Ms. Grondin gave a big shout out to our nurses and administrators who have a lot of pressure to keep students and staff safe in their schools.  She explained the process used once they get notification of a possible COVID-19 case or close contact.
