1. Staff Allocation
Donna Madore went over the handout on staff allocation for the different programs in the schools. Although there are many special programs in some schools, there’s extra student support staff that goes with those programs. Hussey doesn’t have any district programs except for one resource room because they don’t have the space. Lincoln school has the district program for children with autism and needs intensive staff support for those students.
2. Proficiency Based Diploma Update
Kim Silsby and Donna Madore gave an update on where the district is on Proficiency Based Diplomas. A Proficiency Based Learning Committee was formed and has been working on this for the last 3-4 years. Members of the committee are Stew Brittner, Shelby Thibodeau, Jan Rollins, Donna Madore and Kim Silsby. In addition to the committee a Proficiency Based Leadership Team with a very diverse group which includes one person from each department; Grades 6-8 and 9-12; special education; administration; guidance; central office; parents from other districts who love proficiency based and those who hate proficiency based. A presentation has been made with 7th grade parents for the last three years. A lot of the work the team has done centers around consensus building making sure that all stakeholders are involved and get a chance to get some input. This year’s ninth grade class will receive a proficiency based diploma upon graduation. Many hours are spent deciding what’s best to do and what’s best for this community.
Meeting adjourned at 6:23 p.m.
