1. Title 20-A Section 4724 Computer Instruction
Donna Madore said a question was asked from a committee member regarding Section 4724 in Graduation Requirements. Ms. Madore queried the DOE about their model standards regarding the requirement. The Maine DOE responded that it does not have model standards - the intent is that all Maine students graduate being able to properly use a computer in their daily lives. The ASD provides instruction for computer literacy and proficiency which is imbedded in the content areas and we are meeting the DOE’s expectation for this mandate. Ms. Madore said there is a curriculum around technology and she showed the committee where the curriculum is found. In order to receive E-Rate funds teachers have to write down all the lessons they’ve done regarding technology instruction in order to complete the E-Rate verification document. Ms. Silsby said technology instruction has been ongoing for many years. She said by the time students from Grades 7 through 12 graduate, they have 24 opportunities for technology training along with keyboarding classes and two new UMA computer classes added this year.
2. March 15 Workshop Results
Ms. Madore shared survey results on the March 15 Workshop day. Topics for the workshop are chosen based on a survey sent to all employees. This year’s workshop was a great success and there were many positive comments.
Meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
