Donna Madore, Assistant Superintendent updated the committee on the Augusta School Department’s state assessment results (attached). They were released to the public last week.  They’re the Maine Education Assessments which are new and different from the Smarter Balance test the year before.  The Department of Education cautioned districts to not compare these scores with Smarter Balance because it’s a different kind of test.  Administrators have been reviewing and examining the results.  What’s unfortunate is they’re not releasing the test questions at this time so it’s difficult to drill down what questions students missed to see what’s not matching up with our curriculum. We have a very diverse population of students and they’re housed in all of our buildings but Hussey and that shows in the district’s results.  Ms. Madore said the state assessments are part of the new teacher evaluation process but they get a pass on it this year because it’s a new test.  We were supposed to get these results in July but they were only released before Thanksgiving.  Building Administrators will spend time with their teachers to go over the scores and use the information to make necessary changes.

Attached are SAT 2016 MEA results.  We do pretty well with SAT scores compared to area schools.

The meeting adjourned t 6:10 p.m.
