1.  Family Planning – UpdateThe Student Services Leadership Team at Cony High School meets on a monthly basis.  It looks at the needs of student mental and physical health services at the high school.  For the last three years, the health center has changed and evolved and in 2014-2015, approval was given by the school board to add reproductive health services.  At that time, the board felt strongly that in order for Family Planning to prescribe birth control, they wanted parents to give consent.  Family Planning services (which include education, counseling, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.) are not being accessed much and one of the reasons given in a survey was due to the requirement of getting parental consent.   In recent years, on average, there are 4-5 pregnancies per year.  A new law was passed where it’s not necessary for anyone 14 or older to have parental consent.  The board might want to consider approving students’ access to family planning services without parent consent.  The Committee would like a representative from Family Planning to do a board presentation on the utilization, the process, and the barriers to students accessing family planning services and with a presentation on the Health Center as a whole and the Curriculum and Education Committee will discuss further at their next meeting.  The committee also requested utilization data for the Health Center.
2.  Continue Late Start Discussion - Donna Madore, Assistant Superintendent, presented information requested at the previous Curriculum and Education Committee meeting on later start times.  After reviewing the information and considering the results of the survey, Jennifer Neumeyer made a motion to keep the school start times the same and review again when the bus contract comes up for renewal.  Second by Staci Fortunato, so moved 3-0.
Meeting adjourned at 6:34 p.m.
