- Budget Process – Discussion
Edward Hastings, Board Chair, thanked everyone for their hard work on the budget. He said the new pivot tables were very helpful. He said what would have been beneficial during the budget development process was a better understanding of why some budget lines had increased/decreased significantly, the turmoil during budget meetings could have been reduced.
Mr. Anastasio reminded board members that the school department is presenting the budget and answering questions at the city council meeting next Monday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Hastings is spokesperson for the board and will do an overview. Kathy Casparius said she was asked to provide a year-to-date budget report to the council.
Pia Holmes asked about the district’s EPS funding from the city. Mr. Anastasio believes if the council approves the budget the board has submitted, it’s assumed they will have met the requirement for EPS. Because above or below EPS is an unusual calculation we will not know for sure until the DOE releases that information.
There was some discussion regarding starting the budgeting process earlier and how board goals affect the budget.
2. MLTI Grants – Benefits/Costs
Donna Madore, Assistant Superintendent, contacted the Department of Education regarding MLTI Grants. One of the criteria for applying for the grants is to offer staff training and development in integrating technology into their curriculum. The committee recommended moving ahead with the grant application.
