FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING
December 3, 2018

1. Sub pay/minimum wage discussion

The committee discussed substitute pay rates.  Minimum wages go up January 1, 2019.  Some of the rates will not meet that minimum.  A survey was done with the Kennebec Valley Superintendents Association group to see what other districts pay their subs (the chart is attached).  Motion by Edward Hastings to move the recommended sub pay rates to the board for consideration, second by Kati McCormick, so moved 3-0. 

2.  Administration Update on the Budget (2019-2020) Process 

Mr. Anastasio said administrators met several times with the goal of creating a three year plan related primarily to personnel.  It will become part of the superintendent’s budget recommendation.  Spreadsheets with three years of history were provided to principals and people who are responsible for budgets to help them with the budget process.  All major increases/decreases must be justified.  A discussion followed. 

Rates for lunchroom monitors that were not at minimum were increased.  A question remains about increasing wages for monitors not affected by the minimum wage increase.  Kathy Casparius provided data to review. 

3.  Budget Discussion 

Mr. Anastasio provided the committee with a draft of “Dates to Remember” to come up with a schedule for the budget process.  Mr. Hastings said it will be discussed at the December 5 Board Workshop.
