- Efficiency Maine Lighting Proposal
Mr. Dudley said we started the lighting project last spring because Efficiency Maine had a very lucrative LED switch over from florescent fixtures last spring and some fixtures were switched over to LED. However, there have been no lighting incentives for about a year unless you applied for the large customer program. Mr. Dudley submitted an application in conjunction with the City of Augusta and the schools were approved for approximately $118,000 in incentive money. The total project for the schools would cost $671,880. The change to LED will reduce CO2 emissions equivalent to removing 78 cars off the road, there is no mercury in the LED bulbs, they don’t give out any ultraviolet light, produce less heat and have 70% more light. Kim Martin asked how this would tie in with the budget. Kathy Casparius, Business Manager, said we would take out a lease purchase. For the first year, the lease payment would be $64,000 and the first year energy savings would be $63,000. We could then look at fund balance to pay it off.
Motion by Edward Hastings to move forward to the board for approval putting Augusta Schools, with Lincoln listed as an alternative, on the RFQ with the City of Augusta to get the best pricing. Second by April Cusick, so moved 3-0.
