FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING
April 3, 2017
Committee Members Present: Edward Hastings, Chair; Members; April Cusick, Kati McCormick
Board Members Present: Tom Connors, Deborah Towle
Administrators Present: James Anastasio, Kathy Casparius, Donna Madore
1. Substitute Nurses Pay
Because the school department has difficulty getting nurse substitutes, the committee discussed raising the RN nurse substitute pay to help recruit subs. Board members asked for data of how many times we’ve used substitute nurses and to put the new rate of pay in ads when we advertise.
Motion by Kati McCormick to increase the substitute nurse pay rate to $20.00 and the LPN substitute rate to $18.50 and move to the board for approval. Second by April Cusick, so moved 3-0.
2. LED Lighting
Kathy Casparius, Business Manager gave an update on the LED lighting project. They are now working at Farrington and all reports are that everyone likes it because it’s a brighter light. The deadline for completion is August 1. We’ve been approved by Efficiency Maine to pay a portion of the project. Kathy asked committee members if they want the City to get financing for the entire remaining cost of the project knowing that it would be taken care of by the savings in electricity, or take $180,000 from the current budget for the project. The reason the amount is $180,000 is because that was the amount allocated for air conditioning which we are not able to do. If we don’t use that money this year, it will be carry over funds and be put into the general fund. It would decrease the amount we would have to borrow. Committee members and other board members present agreed to use the $180,000 in the current budget.
Meeting adjourned at 6:13 p.m.
