Temporary Teacher Highly Qualified Notice

The federal Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) law requires that all teachers must meet a specific, federal definition of "highly qualified" (HQ), in order to teach in schools that receive federal funding.
We believe that all of the teachers working in our schools are qualified for their teaching assignments. However, some temporary teachers do not meet all of the requirements for the federal designation of "highly qualified". The law requires us to notify parents if their child is being taught for four or more weeks by a teacher who does not meet that HQ distinction.

There may be times that your child's temporary teacher does not meet the HQ requirements. The district provides the teacher the supports necessary for success of all the students in the classroom. You have the option of requesting that your child be moved into a classroom with a designated HQ teacher, if you wish.
The Augusta School Department is dedicated to the success of every child in the class. We encourage you to communicate with your child's teacher on a regular basis so that together we can provide your child with the best education possible.
