PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MEETING

MINUTES

Item 1 – Discussion and Approval of Job Descriptions:

 

  1. Assistant Technical Director-CATC – It was moved by Gregg Bernstein, seconded by Sue Dowling, to approve the Job Description for the Assistant Technical Director at CATC.  The move was approved 2-0

 

  1. Computer Lab Technician III – It was moved by Gregg Bernstein, seconded by Sue Dowling, to approve the Job Description for a Computer Lab Technician III.

 

Item 2 – Non-Discrimination Policy:

 

The Personnel Committee discussed File AC-Non-Discrimination.  The School Department Counsel Peter Lowe has recommended that the School Department revise the Non-Discrimination Policy to bring it into compliance with State and Federal law.

 

The Committee reviewed changes to the Policy, including extending the list of protected classes, adding gender identity and expression, and deleting the words, “continue to take affirmative action” with respect to hiring and personnel decisions.

 

After a brief discussion, the Committee agreed to recommend to the Board of Education the Revised Policy for a First Reading at the June 13th Board Meeting.


 

 

 

Item 3 – Update regarding Gilbert Principal Recruit:

 

Superintendent Brown informed the Personnel Committee that she would be nominating Sue Dionne for the Gilbert Principalship beginning July 1st.

 

Item 4 –Lincoln Elementary Principal:

 

Dr. Brown briefed the Personnel Committee on the process that will be used to recruit and hire a Principal for Lincoln Elementary School.

 

The ad for the position was placed in papers, and the deadline for receipt of application is June 1st.

A committee will be put together to interview applicants.  A nomination could go to the Board as early as June 13th.

 

Item 5 – Executive Session:

 

It was moved by Gregg Bernstein, seconded by Sue Dowling, to move into Executive Session per Statutory Citation 1 M.R.S.A. § 405(6)(A).

 

The Personnel Committee was briefed on a Complaint filed with the Maine Human Rights Commission and on an Arbitration Hearing held May 9th.

 

 

 

 

 

The next meeting for the Personnel Committee will be:

 

7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2007
