AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FOR BEGINNERS
This class is designed for beginners and those needing a refresher course. We will learn the manual alphabet, both visual and expressive communication vocabulary, some cultural features of the Deaf community and some ASL activities. The class will be taught in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. We never know when we will need to communicate with someone who as hearing loss, be it a friend, a family member, or perhaps at work.

BALLROOM BASICS WORKSHOP
When life is too short to commit to long weekly lessons, we have the opportunity to have a fun night together. Looking to learn some of the different styles of ballroom dance? Learn a few basic steps in this one night intensive. If students have a song in mind, please let instructor know at the beginning of class. Partners recommended. A great way to learn and get necessary muscle memory, and opportunities to continue future training.

CAMERA COLLECTING AND PHOTOGRAPHY
We will discuss camera collecting, operation and values, film photography, and the adaptation of vintage lenses to modern digital cameras. We will not have class April 12th and 19th.

CENTRAL MAINE'S ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY
Learn about 250 years of Maine architecture, and maybe learn something about YOUR house! The framework of this course will be presentations covering five major architectural periods (18th Century, Federal, Greek Revival, Victorian, Modern), but students are encouraged to enhance the class with experiences from their own homes. Student photos can be integrated into the slide presentations, and students are encouraged to share their own old house stories or problems. There will be slides of MANY local examples, as well as a general discussion of methods of construction, technology changes, style changes, and the ideas behind them. Also, we will cover topics of restoration and preservation and how to solve common old house problems. Class fees will be donated to the Kennebec Historical Society.

CONSTELLATIONS OF SPRING
We have to start a little early because of DST March 12th. I'll bring a telescope and binoculars, which are great if you have them. We'll see an episode of COSMOS on cloudy nights. SOLAR SYSTEM to GALAXIES and the brightest stars , and we'll trace them out with a laser. You'll need : warm clothes, copy of THE STARS: A NEW WAY TO SEE THEM ~ H.A. Rey. Outstanding best guide ever to constellations, about $10. Try to get newest edition for planetary tables.

CONSUMER MATTERS: SCAMS AND MORE!
This 1-1.5 hour discussion will teach you how to be a smart consumer and how to identify and avoid scams. Why are there so many scams and do people really fall for them? How do I know whether that pop-up ad is legit? When I purchase something what protections does the law already provide? What tactics should automatically make me question an advertisement’s authenticity? What should I do if I fall for a scam? How can I avoid being a victim of identity theft? If I become a victim, what do I do next? The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division fields approximately 12,000 calls per year and can answer all of these questions.

Interested in learning about Germany and the German language? Then join this German class! In this class, you will learn not only basic communicative skills in German but also about the multifaceted and interesting culture of Germany and the other German speaking countries such as Austria and Switzerland. This class is taught by a German native speaker, who will not only share first-hand experience about life in Germany but also give an interesting and authentic insight into Germany’s culture. Additionally you will learn to communicate in German about different topics. Both will build a great foundation for any further studies of the language and culture! Interested in learning how to grow your own vegetables in a sustainable manner? Join us for an evening-long workshop on how to grow your own garden organically. We’ll talk about the basics of soil science and how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants. The course will also cover the fundamentals of making and using compost, the principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures to manage nutrients in the garden. Other topics will include how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and cultural methods for dealing with pests. The instructor will be an experienced farmer or gardener from your region. We will even send you home with free seeds! PRIMITIVE ARCHERY - AN INTRODUCTION
We will cover the making of a traditional longbow bow from common woods, both with and without the use of power tools. The use of power tools makes the task quicker but also makes it easier to cause a flaw that can cause breakage. The class will go over how to choose a piece of wood and what you will need to put your bow to use, such as a bow string and arrows. This class is designed to help you discern whether traditional archery is for you. Advanced classes will be available in the future. We will not have class on April 13th and 20th.

THE ART OF METAL DETECTING
This course will teach the fundamentals of metal detecting and the use of different types of metal detectors. You will learn proper recovery techniques with minimal soil disruption and the best way to extract your find without damage.
