In this level I class we will primarily focus on the Library and Develop Modules with an overview of the other components. AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE - BEGINNERS

CENTRAL MAINE'S ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY
MITCHELL, DANIEL
Learn about 250 years of Maine architecture, and maybe learn something about YOUR house.  Learn how to be an advocate for historic preservation. The framework of this course will be presentations covering five major architectural periods (18th Century, Federal, Greek Revival, Victorian, and Modern).  Students are encouraged to enhance the class with experiences from their own homes. Student photos can be integrated into the slide presentations, and students can share their own old house stories or problems. There will be slides of many local, central Maine examples, numerous hands-on artifacts, suggested books, as well as general discussion of methods of construction, technology changes, style changes, and the ideas behind them. We'll cover topics of restoration and historic preservation as well as how to solve common old house problems. Class fees will be donated to a needy local historical organization.

We have 3 exciting oppositions to look forward to this spring. Jupiter, Saturn, Mars.....one after the other. It's the world's best introduction to the Constellations! We'll look at or discuss the Zodiacs (important-they contain planets) and the solar system. Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Libra are all out during class this time of year.  Learn the beauties and subtlety of the night sky! We'll go over some history of astronomy as well. You won't be the same. Binoculars are helpful!

Interested in learning how to grow your own vegetables in a sustainable manner? Join us for an evening-long workshop on how to grow your own garden organically. We’ll talk about the basics of soil science and how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants. The course will also cover the fundamentals of making and using compost, the principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures to manage nutrients in the garden. Other topics will include how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and cultural methods for dealing with pests.  The instructor will be an experienced farmer or gardener from your region. MAINE DRIVING DYNAMICS

Maine's "Driving Dynamics Course" offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities.  This five-hour course will include discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. A certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor teaches the course. PRIMITIVE ARCHERY - AN INTRODUCTION

We will cover the making of a traditional longbow bow from common woods, both with and without the use of power tools. The use of power tools makes the task quicker but also makes it easier to cause a flaw that can cause breakage. The class will go over how to choose a piece of wood and what you will need to put your bow to use, such as a bow string and arrows. This class is designed to help you discern whether traditional archery is for you. Advanced classes will be available in the future.

THE ART OF METAL DETECTING
