The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers classroom course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course is for healthcare professionals, direct care workers, day care providers, and those who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. The course is also for community members that are ready, willing and able to offer a hand during a crisis.

FITNESS BOOT CAMP

If you are looking for a challenge and to improve your fitness level, this class is for you. Working with fit balls, med balls, dumbbells, and resistance bands this workout will keep your heart pumping. You will feel stronger and energized and want to come back for more! The workout goes nonstop for 45 minutes and includes squats, lunges, planks, pushups, sit ups, and much more. We make fitness FUN!

Need to improve your strength, balance, and flexibility? This 45 minute class offers toning, core strengthening, and stretching for all levels of ability. Fit ball, dumbbells, medicine balls, resistance bands, and mats are all provided for you! Deidre promises to make fitness FUN! Class will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. HANDLING AGGRESSION

Handling Aggression will address the 3 stages of conflict and conflict management.  The situations presented are geared for real life engagements. Focus will be placed on strategies that deal with verbal disagreements as well as those situations that can escalate, and get physical.  This 3.5 hour course will begin by focusing on verbal intimidation and how you can respond to someone who is trying to intimidate you or make you feel uncomfortable.  We then cover scenarios that go beyond words, where “reasonable force” is needed in order to regain control of the situation, de-escalation strategies, avoidance techniques, & physical restraining exercises and controlling tactics.

HEARTSAVER CPR/AED FOR ADULTS, CHILDREN, AND INFANTS

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. A 2 year certification card will be issued after successful completion of the course. If you have contact with patients at your workplace, you need BLS for the Healthcare Provider, not this class.

HOW TO READ AND USE NAUTICAL CHARTS

This seminar is for boaters and taught by boaters. It is presented by America's Boating Club and instructed by the Kennebec River Sail & Power Boaters. If you plan to go fishing, travel to a marina, or cruise the coastline or rivers you should have the knowledge of reading and using a nautical chart. Charts are essential to safe boating. The seminar includes navigational aids, bottom contours and hazards, chart information, and much more. Come join us for the fun and education. We promote safe boating for all!

PERSONAL SAFETY

Personal Safety is designed for any individual who wants the tools to be confident in their everyday life.  This class will teach the skills necessary to stay safe in a variety of situations; from outward appearance and confidence level, to utilizing the body as a weapon. Every day items that can be used as a form of self protection will be addressed as well. This personal safety course will give you the tools necessary to recognize possible dangerous encounters and teach you how to handle them.  Focus will be placed on prevention strategies as well as mental and physical preparation. This 3 hour course will employ a variety of techniques that are easy and practical to use. Ages 14+ welcome to attend.  No experience necessary.

America's Boating Club and Kennebec River Sail & Power Boaters present the newly updated edition of Seamanship. It is expanded to extend knowledge and skills for your Safe Boating Experience. Skills and knowledge build confidence in a boater for safe fun and water adventure. Topics covered include functioning boat, skipper's responsibility, preparing boat for use, handling and maneuvering a boat under various conditions, emergencies, rules of the road (waterways), and boating in Canadian waters.
