Jessica Simpson, Grade 1  Room 145

Hi there and welcome to first grade! My name is Jessica Simpson and this is my first year teaching in Augusta! I am a born and raised Rhode Islander and recently moved to Maine this summer. I graduated from Rhode Island College in 2014 with a degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in Mild/Moderate Special Education. Following, I taught 3rd grade in Framingham, MA for just under two years. In July of 2016, I returned to school and earned my Master's of Education in School Counseling from Providence College. I sought this degree so I could address all of my students' needs, socially, emotionally, and academically. Even though I just completed this degree in May of 2018, I am already incredibly eager to find a new program to further my education and strengthen my teaching practices!

I am a firm believer in the importance of teaching the whole child according to his/her developmental level and individual needs. My aim is to consider not only the academic, but also social and emotional needs of each of my students and design my classroom and plan my instruction accordingly. As a teacher, I aim to create a safe and inclusive classroom where all students can be successful.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I live in Augusta with my husband, Justin, and our cat, Poppy. I am very excited to be living in the same community as I teach. As a born and raised Rhode Islander, I try to spend as much time as I can at the beach in the summer and love the first snow fall of the season. I also enjoy taking yoga, spin, and other fitness classes and exploring new places.

I am so excited for the school year ahead and to see how we grow as a class! Education truly is a team effort and I believe students are most successful when school and home work together. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or just want to check in, please feel free to email, call, or send in a written note!
