Joc Caldwell-Grade 1

Hello Gilbert 1st Grade Families,

My name is Joc Caldwell and this will be my first year teaching here at Gilbert. I am excited to get the year started and I have been working hard to get the classroom ready for our little ones. I believe that the first step to children loving education is to have a safe, warm, calming environment to be in.

A little about my background, I attended the University of Maine at Farmington. There I completed a degree in Early Childhood Special Education as well as a K-3 Teaching Certificate. I have been teaching in Portland Maine ever since I graduated. I spent two year in Kindergarten and moved on to try my hand in 4th grade. Last year I was able to teach second grade with the mentor teachers I worked with during my student teaching year of college. I am excited to be back in the younger grade levels as this is where I see my passion. These students are so welcoming and upbeat. They are always challenging their thinking and growing so fast.

I hope to make connections with all of my students as well as their families!
