Meet Me!

Hi, My name is Karen Erdmann. I am beginning my 11th year of teaching, and my firstIMG_0917 year at Gilbert School. I am very excited to be here.   I come here after teaching nine years in Wiscasset as a fourth grade teacher. I've also taught third grade, and been a title 1 reading/math teacher.

I grew up in the Brunswick/Topsham area and graduated from Brunswick High School.  I attended the University of Southern Maine where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Social and Behavioral Science, my teaching credentials, and a Master of Science in Teaching and Learning Education.  Upon graduation, I was awarded an "Outstanding Student Achievement Award."  Additionally, I was nominated and named as a finalist for " Lincoln County Teacher of the Year" in 2016.  I am beginning the process to further my education, and earn a certificate of advanced degree.

I very much enjoy teaching, learning with my students, and finding ways to improve my teaching.  Things students usually say about me are I am fair, nice, and care about them.  They are right! I do care about them and work really hard to get to know them. I spend a great deal of time at the beginning of each year teaching routines and expectations so we can do our best learning all year long.

When not in the classroom, you might find me relaxing at my camp on Upper Lead Mountain Pond, hiking, or playing with my dog, Ruby.  I am an avid reader. I love to travel, and recently had the opportunity to spend several months in Europe traveling to different countries.  I love to snowshoe, and have recently started gardening and raising chickens.  I have two children of my own.  My son, Jarrod is 27, and my daughter, Breah is 23.  I have been married 29 years, and my husband retired from the U.S. Navy.  Spending time with my family is my very favorite thing to do.
