Hello my name is Maureen Cooper. I grew up in the Portland, Maine area and graduated from Deering High School (1981) and the University of Southern Maine (1985). I spent one year in Germany playing professional basketball. When I came back from Germany I spent a few months substituting in the Augusta school system
I have three beautiful children. Cassandra, Wade and Walker. I have three grandchildren...Carter, Miles and Ariana. I have been married to Bruce Cooper (31 years) who teaches Social Studies at Cony High School. My mother in law Lorene lives with us and we have two dogs Cole (Labradoodle) and Izzy (Schnoodle) and a cat named Joe.
I have been teaching since 1987 in the Augusta School system. Most of my years I have taught 1st grade but do have some experience with Kindergarten and a K-1 multiage class. Teaching in the younger grades is so rewarding because I see so much progress academically, socially and emotionally. The students come into 1st grade needing the teacher for most activities to becoming mostly independent by the end of the year. I earned my Masters in Literacy from UNE (December 2012).
I am currently waiting for my scores for National Board Certification (December 2017).
National Board Certification of Teachers...National Board Certification (NBC) is a voluntary, advanced teaching credential that goes beyond state licensure. NBC has national standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. The National Board certifies teachers who successfully complete its rigorous certification process.
