Welcome to the Augusta Pre-K program and my classroom page. My name is Rita Clement and I am one of three Pre-K teachers at Gilbert Elementary School.
I have taught Pre-K for 35+ years in a private setting, for Head Start and for the past twelve years at Gilbert and at Hussey Schools.
I was born and raised in Germany and received my initial teacher education from ‘Edith Stein Schule’ in Paderborn, a German teachers College. After coming to Maine, I completed additional courses at UMF and graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Early Childhood Education. In addition, I have completed more than half of the required courses for a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education, with a concentration in Early Literacy Studies.
My husband and I live in Pittston. We are the parents of three adult children who have left home and are creating their own futures. We are very proud of them and support them in all their endeavors.
The Augusta pre-k classrooms use the TOOLS of the Mind curriculum. This program is based on Lev Vygotsky’s social development theory of learning. Vygotsky believed that social learning leads to cognitive learning. In the classroom this goal is reached through the use of dramatic play and many partner or group activities, which support growth in social and academic areas.
I firmly believe in a partnership of home and school; when parents and teachers work together children benefit. I invite you to contact me whenever you have suggestions, ideas or concerns, as I will surely do as well.
My contact information is firstname.lastname@example.org or 622-2491. I look forward to communicating with you via e-mail, by phone or in person.
