  1. Jan Whitfield & Heather Gauthier– Mrs. Whitfield and Mrs. Gauthier gave the Board a presentation of their work with the Dropout Prevention Committee. 

 

  1. Scott Phair & Stephanie Turgeon– Reviewed data from a survey that will be administered to CATC Seniors upon leaving and subsequent years following prepared by LifeTrack Services Inc.

8)      Recognitions:  Jon Millett, Carrie Lasselle, Mary Chouinard, Kathi Toothaker, and Renee Henry:  Each of these staff members was recognized by the Board for volunteering to sort 3,600 donated books during the summer.

  1. Finance Committee Report:  Mrs. Dennison
    1. Business Manager’s Report:  Mrs. Miller gave the Board her report for the period ending August 30, 2010.  She noted that the auditors had been in and at this time, the financials look to be in good shape.  The School Department is hoping for an Unqualified Opinion from the auditors.

  1. Curriculum & Education Committee Report:    Mrs. Dowling
    1. Curriculum Coordinator’s Report: Mrs. Meserve gave the School Committee an update of the work done thus far preparing for Professional Development activities for staff.  She also discussed whether the School Department should run a flu clinic for students.  The Board asked her to see if Maine General was willing to offer a Saturday clinic.  Mrs. Meserve said she would get back to the Board next week.

16)  Superintendent’s Report:

  1. Dr. Brown reported to the Board that in spite of the heat, the opening of school went well.  She noted that she’s never seen weather as warm as it was for the first week of school and to the best of her knowledge schools have never closed because of the heat. 

 

17)  Reports from Other School Officials:

  1. Mr. Paul Vachon commented that sports teams had been running now for the last 20 days.  Mr. Vachon also stated that the Cure for Cancer games between Cony and Gardiner went well this year, bring in over $20,000.

 

18)  Audience Recognition for Non-Agenda Items:

  1. Mr. Robert Tenney questioned Chairperson Burney about the process by which the appeal of a bus stop or route request is heard by the Finance Committee.  Mr. Tenney complained that only two members of the finance committee were present for the appeals, therefore it was possible to have a split vote.  After listening, Chairperson Burney stated that Mr. Tenney’s requested to be re-heard at a Finance Committee meeting on September 22, 2010.
