  1. Superintendent’s Report:

Mr. Anastasio thanked staff, administrators, the board, and parents for their support this past year. The governor announced today that social distancing would disappear when school begins in the fall.  Masks will still be required but can be removed while eating. Mr. Anastasio said school this fall will be as close to normal as possible which means five days in school for all students.  The district had opted to do pool testing as a means to remove social distancing and detect positive COVID cases sooner.  Mr. Anastasio’s recommendation is to continue with the process of getting to the 30% mark for pool testing. Currently Gilbert is at 18%, Lincoln 26%, Farrington 19%, Hussey 27% and Cony 20%.  He said there has been no decision made to require staff or students to be vaccinated.  He said he is anticipating buses will run as they have in a normal year.

  1. Assistant Superintendent’s Report:

Training has started on the new math program LearnZillion platform and the next training is August 25 and 26.  Every building has identified two math mentors and each building will have a K-2 mentor and a 3-5 mentor.  She said they are advertising for educational support interventionists.  Each elementary building will have two additional interventionists and Cony will have one additional interventionist at the middle school.

  1. Business Manager’s Report:

           Attachment 1

Ms. Casparius said the balloon payment for all federal employees who get paid out for the year was processed this week.  She said she has been working on pulling information for the auditors who are coming next week.  She said the Business Office is busy in July and August due to changes in health and dental insurance rages and contractual salary changes.

  1. Reports from Other School Officials:

Theresa Violette, Director of Title I and Homeless Liaison said the little libraries are being rolled out and will be advertised.  She said there are books for people of all ages. Students in the CATC building program worked on the libraries.  Elementary summer camp is running July 6 to August 5 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 to noon.  There are 109 students enrolled this year.  Letters will be going out to families soon.  Work has started on the consolidated application for the title grant and she is seeking public input. Parents can contact her or the assistant superintendent Katy Grondin.

Teresa Beaudoin, Principal at Farrington Elementary School, encouraged parents to turn in forms for pool testing or use the online link.  She also would like to encourage parents to register their children for kindergarten.  The sixth grade celebration was held this week.  The last two years, the celebrations were done outside and they would like to continue doing it that way.  She shared how surprised teachers were about the resilience of students this past year with social distancing and wearing of masks and how teachers became much more comfortable with technology.

Shelby Thibodeau, Assistant Special Education Director, thanked retiring Special Education Director, Susan Walters, for her contribution to the Augusta School Department.

Susan Walters, Special Education Director said the surreal nature of where we were last year in comparison to where we are today is phenomenal and startling.  She gave credit to the administrative team and said the educators who did all the everyday were outstanding.
