1. Cony/JMG Internship Opportunity
Kim Silsby, Principal of Cony Middle/High School, said they’ve been working with Jobs for Maine’s Graduates (JMG) for 3-4 years. In the beginning, even though the program was well promoted, very few students signed up for the class. Last year a decision was made to add it to the Unified Arts for 7th grade and it’s been very successful. Ms. Silsby said there’s been a big push to expand our Internship/Apprenticeship opportunities. The JMG program would help develop partnerships with local area non-profits and businesses to create internship opportunities for Juniors and Seniors.
Pia Holmes asked to be updated on the program.
2. WIDA Access Results
WIDA Access is a state mandated assessment that has to be administered to ELL students. Once a student reaches level 5 proficiency level, they can be dismissed from the program. The attachment shows data for the last three years. The assessment was administered in January and February of 2018. The number of students administered the assessment at Cony has increased. Compared to previous years, there are more students at higher proficiency levels. There is a K-6 district wide program at Farrington and assessment results also show more students at high proficiency levels. There is no ELL programming at Hussey/Gilbert/Lincoln schools. Some parents refuse ELL services for their children. They want their children with English speaking students and immersed in the English language. At the elementary level, 89.79% of ELL students have shown growth and 77% at the Middle/High School level.
3. End of the Year Elementary Formative Results
Donna Madore went over the assessment results. She said the administrators will disaggregate the information by building, by grade level and by teacher. The information will be used to provide support students. The committee discussed different ways of looking at the data.
Meeting adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
