1. Update from Cony LCSWs
Helen Renko, Guidance Department Head, Michelle Burns, LCSW, and Anthony Veit, LCSW, gave an overview of their positions and the work they do with students at the middle/high school. Due to the increasing needs of students one LCSW was added this year. Since the beginning of the school year the LCSWs have seen 135 students and the Kennebec Behavioral Health clinician, at capacity, is seeing 25 with a waitlist. The goal the LCSWs is to support students in the educational setting and help them be successful. LCSWs are available for all students and do not require parental permission so students in crisis do not have to wait to access support. KBH offers more intensive long term interventions and requires parent involvement. With the addition of LCSWs school guidance counselors now have the ability to do programming for the entire student population, work with students at risk, do more programming, post-secondary planning, academic planning, scheduling, truancy, homelessness, and help students with disciplinary issues, and the ability to better serve new students.
Motion by Kevin Lamoreau to table item 2, second by Christopher Clarke, so moved 2-0.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
