I graduated from NY Maritime (sister school to Maine Maritime Academy) with a B.S. degree and a USCG Federal License which allowed me to work as a Third Mate upon any tonnage vessel upon any ocean. After sailing for several years as a 3rd mate on oil tankers, I upgraded my license and sailed as 2nd mate - head of navigation for the vessel.
After leaving my seafaring days, I went back to school to become a teacher. I earned my professional certification and also obtained teaching endorsements in Math and Science. I continued my education receiving a Masters Degree in Education from Thomas College. I’ve worked at Kents Hill School, Readfield Elementary, St. Mary’s/St. Michael School, and now, Cony Middle School.
In 2017 I was selected to be a part of the ECET2 for Exceptional Teaching by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation held in Seattle, Washington. This was an energizing, invigorating, and enlightening experience to work with Master Teachers from across the country sharing teaching strategies, tips and tools. I remain a part of this exceptional group of innovative teachers. I am also a member of NSTA (National Science Teaching Association) and NMLSTA (National Middle Level Science Teachers Association) .
Over the years, I have coached High School and Middle School field hockey, Math team, Track team, and Odyssey of the Mind, headed Science Fairs, an engineering club and a knitting club, and started a school newspaper.
