In Ms. Wachtl's AP Bio class, students went to the Protein Data Base, used by researchers, to choose a specific protein and explore protein structure. Then, they observed the rate at which an enzyme functioned in lab and tested the effects of changing pH on the enzymes. Some students made 3-D models of the proteins they researched
This week was National School Lunch Week! We had special guests help serve our students with the School Nutrition Staff. Thank you to City Manager Jared Mills and Superintendent Mike Tracy and our own Assistant Principal Brian York.

Our Cony Summit program built and donated two benches for outside CATC for us by the staff and students and another one for the Elks organization. We are so proud of our students in this program. Thank you to Teacher Carly Wiggin and Interventionist Jen Conrad. Go Rams!
The Augusta School Department was awarded over 1.2 million dollar grant over 5 years from the MELMAC Foundation. The grant is called the Aspire grant and the Augusta School Department is one of five Maine school districts to get this grant! The goal of the grant is to raise the aspirations of our Pre-K through Grade 12 students! We are so grateful for this grant! It pays for two staff members to focus on this work and some money to pay for programming. We are excited to see where this grant takes us! Thank you to the MELMAC Foundation!
The School Board had a presentation at their meeting about the new sensory building being built near the turf field. Great collaboration from all involved!
In Ms. Wachtl's CP Chemistry class, students carried out a "Chemistry in a Baggie" lab. They found the masses before and after the reaction to confirm the law of conservation of mass, in addition to observing signs of a chemical change vs. a physical change

This week is School Lunch Week! We are celebrating with a circus theme! We so appreciate our school nutrition staff!
Two Cony students spent their long weekend traveling to Estes Park, Colorado, with their German instructor, Deborah Backman. All three participated in a German immersion choral program sponsored by PASCH, an initiative funded through the Goethe-Institut. The chorus was directed by Yoshihisa Kinoshita, a renowned German musician and conductor. The program combined German language study with music under the theme of humanity's relationship with nature.
Cony is fortunate to be one of 14 PASCH schools in the United States, a distinction that allows students to take part in experiences like this one. Dr. Cordula Hunold, director of the PASCH program, recently visited Cony to check in on our intern, Julia Schöppe and to see what our German students are doing in their classes.
During the awards ceremony at the State Championship on Saturday the Class B Sportsmanship Award was presented to Cony High.

A reminder from Mrs. Plourde and Mrs. Parker: The deadline for buying the least expensive yearbook is quickly approaching. Yearbooks are $60 right now and that is the cheapest they will be all year. After December 31st they will increase in price. You can pay online (the easiest option) or by check made out to Cony Yearbook. If you are interested in a payment plan, please see Mrs Parker or Mrs Plourde BEFORE the December 31st deadline!
This week, many Cony teachers and staff will be recognizing World Teachers’ Day by visiting each others' classrooms and celebrating the innovative and inspiring work that happens at Cony every day. Frau Backman went into Brad Bolduc’s Probability and Statistics class because she’d heard that he’s been doing an amazing job in his new role as a math teacher. Students say that they really enjoy the energy he brings to his lessons and appreciate his ability to explain concepts clearly. Mr. Bolduc worked as an Ed Tech and Special Education teacher at Cony for many years and that experience is going to help him absolutely crush it as a math teacher.
For sheer cooperation, communication and a sense of immediate accomplishment, it’s hard to beat what our physical education teachers foster at Cony's rope course. Whether a student is more comfortable on the ground as part of the belay team or conquering their fears up on the course itself, everyone has a role and the sense of working toward the safety is unparalleled. Mrs. Nored and Mr. Braun took their combined Period 2 classes on the course but talked about how this would not happen without Mr. Plourde setting up each morning and Ms. Weis taking down at the end of the day. Talk about a great team!!
