Located in the Capital City of the State of Maine, the Augusta School Department is one of the larger school systems in Maine, with four elementary schools, one high school, one middle school, a technical school and a large adult education population. Approximately 2,300 students attend school during the day and another 1,500 attend in the evening.  Students are provided with a rich and comprehensive educational experience.

Cony High School provides a full array of academic programming and athletic opportunities for students, including offering four Modern and Cultural languages, French, German, Spanish and Latin.  Enrollment at Cony is approximately 1,250 students in grades 7-12.  Cony offers more than twenty six Honors and AP Course selections as well as a full slate of specialized programs and services for students.

The Capital Area Technical Center is another opportunity for students at the secondary level.  CATC offers hands-on programming that is aligned with a set of robust national educational standards for each one of our programs.  National standards are a set of guidelines for each CTE program.  CATC was awarded “Continued Accreditation” by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and received a commendation for its culture of learning where faculty, staff, and administration work cooperatively to promote learning in a safe environment.

The Augusta School Department has a high college placement rate and students go on to prestigious universities and colleges, including Harvard, Colby, Bates, Bowdoin, and the University of Maine.  Students also graduate and go on to serve their country in the armed services.

The Augusta School Department employs a highly trained staff with many holding advanced degrees.  Staff members continue their education through professional development opportunities and graduate study.  Several staff have been honored for their achievements, among these are the Rotary Teacher of the Year, the Maine Principal of the Year, the Special Education Director of the Year, the Maine Business Official of the Year and finalists for the Maine Teacher of the Year.

Volunteers and parent teacher organizations are central to the success of our schools.  Annually, individuals devote countless hours and resources, including money for sports, playgrounds, special student programming for the needs of our students.
