Connor P.

Capital Area Technical Center is proud to recognize Connor Poirier, a senior from Cony High School enrolled in the Automotive Technology program, as a September Student of the Month.

Connor joined the Auto Tech program last year after his Machine Tool instructor unexpectedly passed away. Despite coming into the class in March, he quickly adapted thanks to his natural mechanical aptitude. He discovered that much of the material came easily to him and has since excelled in the program. One of his proudest accomplishments was diagnosing and fixing a problem with his own vehicle’s brakes when they were sticking.

Outside the classroom, Connor is a dedicated three-season athlete, competing in cross country, indoor track, and spring track. He is also working toward earning his Eagle Scout award, currently undertaking a project to repair a bridge at the Viles Arboretum. After graduation, Connor plans to enter the workforce as a welder.

His instructor, Mr. Eric Thomson, praises Connor’s talents and character, stating: “Connor brings a high level of professionalism to the shop, always focused, respectful, and ready to learn. Outside the garage, he excels as a dedicated member of the cross-country team, showing discipline, perseverance, and school spirit. Whether collaborating on a project or supporting his teammates, he leads by example and works exceptionally well with his peers. His commitment, character, and work ethic make him a true asset to our program and school community.”
