Lance Theriault, a senior from Cony High School, is a March, 2026 Professional of the Month. Now in his second year in the Plumbing & Heating program at Capital Area Technical Center, Lance says he has learned an incredible amount through hands-on experience and real-world learning opportunities. He values doing “real work”, using his hands, solving problems, and preparing for a successful future in the trades.
Lance’s greatest accomplishment to date is his outstanding success in SkillsUSA competitions. He earned a gold medal at the local SkillsUSA plumbing competition and went on to capture gold at the state level as well. This June, Lance will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete at the National SkillsUSA Plumbing Competition. The national competition will push him outside his comfort zone, as it requires working with cast iron drainage systems rather than the PVC piping he is more familiar with, an exciting challenge he is ready to take on.
Outside of school, Lance enjoys hunting and fishing and spends time working at HPA Services in Augusta, gaining valuable on-the-job experience in the field. His instructor, Mr. Nick Smith, shared high praise for Lance, stating, “Lance has shown strong technical skills, a great work ethic, and a commitment to safety and quality work. He is a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and responsibility each day.”
As graduation approaches, Lance is thoughtfully weighing his options. He has been accepted to Central Maine Community College and has also received a job offer, giving him multiple strong pathways as he plans his next steps.
Congratulations to Lance Theriault on this well-deserved recognition. We are proud of his accomplishments and look forward to seeing where his skills and dedication take him next.
